Six decades of growth and unmatched customer service! In 1960, Joe Orihel and Roger Judy founded a small contract hardware distributorship in downtown Akron, Ohio. They struggled with the industry's long lead times, and made a strategic decision to change the direction of their company. In 1978, Akron Hardware become the first nationwide wholesale distributor of Corbin products.
Over the next two decades, the company experienced steady growth and added dozens of new product lines. A custom facility was built in Akron which currently houses Sales and Operations, plus new distribution facilities in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Tennessee were constructed. This gave Akron Hardware the ability to ship product to 90% of the country in two days or less via FedEx Ground Service.
In 2011, Akron Hardware acquired the assets of Hardware Supplies of America (HSI) located in Greenville, NC. This transaction allowed for greater strength, experience, and inventory for both commercial and residential hardware markets. A fifth distribution center was added in Texas, along with a new sales office located in North Carolina.
In October of 2017, Akron Hardware was acquired by the private equity firm, High Road Capital Partners. High Road previously acquired Midwest Wholesale Hardware in February of 2017. Under High Road's ownership, these two organizations now create the door hardware industry's largest one-day shipping network. With this combined breadth and depth of inventory, Akron Hardware is even more capable of satisfying our customers' needs.
Akron Hardware is committed to the same principles that have allowed us to succeed over the past 50 years - quality products, industry leading service and unmatched speed to market. Our commitment to these principles make Akron Hardware your best choice for all your architectural door hardware needs.
